In Service - 1976 through to the 90s
The Foden 8x4 truck was widely used as a Flatbed vehicle. It was often used to carry 20ft containers which were positioned centrally on the wooden decking. A good kit of a 20ft container is available from =C-Rail= intermodal. The kit of the container is to 1/148th scale, but fits nicely onto the Foden.
A small number of Foden 8x4 trucks were also used by tank transporter units to carry vehicles in the Scorpion CVR(T) family. It is also known that at least one Foden was used to carry a Scorpion type vehicle on the KAPE tours - Keep the Army in the Public Eye, Army displays. This vehicle was painted in a semi-gloss deep bronze green.
The model is shown in plain green with the word "Foden" painted in red. This was often done, but strictly unofficial as the red paint would make a good aiming point for any potential aggressor.
